Beach Day 2

Neither the hat or the ball lasted long
on this windy day at the beach!
The girls had so much fun on Beach Day #1 last Friday, they wanted to do a repeat this Friday...an exact repeat - though the coast is peppered with beaches, they wanted to go back to our same spot in Jesolo.   We parked in front of the same gelato shop and headed to the beach.  Our umbrella/chair guy led us to a spot in the front again, but told us we didn't have to pay today because a storm may be coming.  Within literally five minutes of sitting down, we felt the first rain drop.  He came over and asked us to put the umbrella down and explained (in Spanish since we determined that was our best joint language) that a cold front was meeting a warm front right then and the winds were going to be a real problem.  The girls already knew from their five minutes in the water that the currents were a little crazy (the beach ball lasted 1 minute before being swept out to sea).  So, we bundled up our stuff and decided to go have lunch (though we had just eaten breakfast an hour before).  I'm embarrassed to say that we decided to eat at an English pub - but the silver lining of being forced off the beach and choosing an English pub is that Wimbeldon was playing on the large TV on the outside patio.  Laura and family are huge tennis enthusiasts, and she hasn't been able to follow it here (we were told it wouldn't broadcast unless there were an Italian playing).  We had a horrible lunch (as we deserved for going into an English pub on a beach in Jesolo, Italy) but thought we had sat out the "storm" that didn't really materialize.

We went back to the sand and the girls and adults resumed our respective positions in the ocean and under the umbrellas..it was a little breezy but all in all beautiful...for about an hour.  The breeze kept getting stronger, until finally a big annoucement was made by the life guards.  I assumed they was calling all swimmers in (so I made the girls get out of the water) but judging by the fact that no one rushed out of the water, we figured out he was just asking for all umbrellas to be lowered.  By that point the sand was starting to whip up and it was clear our beach day was over.  Once home, the girls went back to their secret project and when Jim came home from work (carrying 6 bottles of Proseco a coworker had made), they decided they wanted us to go out to dinner by ourselves and they would figure out their own dinner.  Again, we gladly got dressed for a Friday night out and left them some money. They went back to our pizzeria and ordered for themselves - heated up leftover pasta here - made some new pasta -  totally don't need us anymore.  And, that is totally ok!

We took Laura to one of the first restaurants we went to when we arrived- overlooking the fish market - where I discovered branzino.  We had a very nice dinner and came home late - still not allowed into the secret den.  We sat in 3B and played a few hands of Rummikub before calling it a night.
